I was born in Germany and have lived in the UK (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) since 1997. I came to the UK to study art. Following a one year foundation course at North Tyneside College, I completed my Fine Art Degree (BA. Hon’s) in June 2001 at Northumbria University. Since then I've been a practising artist working (mainly) from the Mushroom Works in Newcastle upon Tyne.

My paintings are abstract and the deliberate choice of colour plays an important role. I use an acrylic base to evoke an atmosphere (this could be temperature, mood, emotion, feeling). I'm interested in surface and use it in two distinct ways, sometimes in combination.

The first uses dots and lines to construct visions suggesting 'otherworldly' life and landscape. These are never confined to the limits of the piece but appear as a snapshot of something or someplace that continues beyond the the canvas. The second method incorporates the use of different media added to wet varnish, allowing the work to erupt and change in surprising ways.

The combination of control and spontaneity is crucial. The results are alchemic. Even though both methods leave the pieces 'open' to interpretation for the viewer, the pieces remain my realisation of instinct and experience. This is reflected in the titles, they are one interpretation of the finished piece. However, they are also intended to encourage conversation about intention and instinct.
